I’ve enjoyed seeing this trend going around so I thought I’d join in and share some vulnerable truths. Can you relate to any? 🫶🏻

Oversupply might sound great in theory. For some n

Oversupply might sound great in theory. For some new moms however, it can cause many negative symptoms.

This includes higher incidence of clogged ducts or mastitis and forceful letdowns. Babies may experience large, explosive bowel movements, increase loose stools and/or mucousy stools, increase in spit-up, inadequate or rapid weight gain, and lots of fussiness!

If you’re struggling and want to correct your oversupply, here are a few tips ⬇️

✨ If you’re feeling uncomfortably full, do NOT fully empty your breasts if you decide to pump. Express just enough milk to feel comfortable.

✨ Do NOT pump before nursing. If your baby is uncomfortable with a forceful let down, consider unlatching them as the letdown begins and collecting that milk in a wash cloth or milk catcher. Or you can try the laid-back nursing position and see if that helps.

✨ Throw your haakaa in the garbage 🤪 don’t get me wrong there are times I do like to use a haakaa. But an oversupply is not it! Use a milk catcher instead like the haakaa ladybugs or Boon trove.

✨ ICE instead of heat! 🧊 Ice will help reduce inflammation. Use an ice pack for about 10 minutes after a nursing or pumping session.

✨ Reach out for help! A mom recently told me she experienced mastitis FOUR times due to an oversupply. You deserve support 🫶🏻

It’s wild out there right now 👀

As a mom, I have learned so much from other creators who are professionals in their area of expertise. I love that aspect of social media, as well as the community it builds.

However, things get scary when misinformation is thrown around by people who only speak from experience and educate like they have professional credentials.

I’ve seen moms trying to sell supplements they created in their kitchen with absolutely no safety regulations. Giving promises of increasing your milk supply. Something we know new moms will desperately do anything for. Terrifying.

There’s also the constant debate about formula versus breast milk. Which I feel is only perpetuating the divide between mothers. We’ve gotten to the point where we can’t even speak about the two together without causing some big feelings.

Here @juneandlily I will always be an advocate for breastfeeding. But I will also support new moms in whatever decision they make that is best for their family. I don’t believe in an all or nothing approach to breastfeeding.

Did you know the guidelines change for how long your milk is good for once thawed, depending on how you thaw it?!

✨ Cold thawing - thawing your milk in the fridge - milk keeps good for 24 hours

✨ Warm thawing - thawing your milk by bringing milk to room temperature or warm - milk keeps good for 2 hours

This is a big difference and can change the game when preparing bottles for your baby!

Are you preparing for your new babe and wondering what you’re supposed to do with all those new bottles and pump parts?

Per the CDC guidelines, baby bottles & pump parts should be cleaned and sanitized before their first use.

❔ How do I clean?
With warm water and soap in a separate basin with a bottle brush.

❔ How do I sanitize?
Sanitizing can be done in a few ways:
- Boil: place parts in a pot of boiling water for 5 minutes (check your pump manual as some parts shouldn’t be sanitized)
- Steam: use a microwave steam bag or a sanitizing steam device like the @babybrezza
- Dishwasher: use the sanitizing cycle on your dishwasher

✨ The CDC recommends for extra germ removal to sanitize once daily. And that sanitizing is particularly important if your baby is younger than 2 months, premature, or has a weakened immune system.
